The second group received the standard care that’s typical for early-stage Alzheimer’s. This care did not include specific diet changes or added exercises.

They continued with their usual lifestyle, which did not actively address potential dietary influences on the disease’s progression or incorporate stress-reduction techniques.

After 20 weeks, the intervention group showed significant improvement. Their cognitive functions, such as memory and clarity of thought, enhanced noticeably.

They performed better on tests designed to assess brain function, demonstrating a clear advancement over their initial conditions. 

In contrast, the usual care group experienced a decline in these same measures, indicating worsening symptoms.

The limited size of the study, involving only 51 participants, while small, strongly supports the connection between comprehensive lifestyle changes and improved brain health. 

Dr. Ornish’s methodology not only suggests a possible slowdown in Alzheimer’s progression but also points to a transformative approach to managing the disease through dietary and lifestyle adjustments.
