This sweet potato lentil flour pizza crust is a delicious healthy spin on vegan & gluten free pizza.
The all-time most popular recipe on the blog is this lentil pizza crust. I don’t even know how that happened. That pizza crust was a totally spontaneous creation (which my husband wasn’t a fan of, to be honest!) but this is proof that just because my husband doesn’t like something, doesn’t mean that no-one else will ;)
Something that I noticed was that a few people were finding that pizza crust by searching for “lentil flour pizza crust”. That prompted me to make a pizza crust with lentil flour, instead of red lentils.

This pizza crust was super easy to make too. Just 3 ingredients (no prizes for guessing which ingredients ;) ), mashed together and baked. I topped this pizza with a chunky olive spread (I was aiming to make an olive tapenade but didn’t have enough olives, so it turned out chunky…still delish though), capiscums, avocado and basil. So so tasty!
There’s another reason I’m posting a pizza recipe today. Today, me and Bianca at Elephantastic Vegan are throwing a #veganpizzaparty on Instagram! Our party is going to run for the next 4 weeks, and we would LOVE you to join in too. Simply post a photo of a vegan pizza you’ve made, tag @viedelavegan and @elephantasticvegan and use the hashtag #veganpizzaparty – we’ll be featuring your pizzas over the next 4 weeks <3

If you haven’t seen red lentil flour before, you can find it here. In Australia, you can find McKenzie’s Red Lentil Flour at Coles, Woolworths and IGA stores. Alternatively, you can always make your own by blending dried red lentils in a high speed blender or food processor :) (I’m not sure how other lentil flours would go in this recipe but I’d say they will have similar results).
- 1 cup red lentil flour (tip: make your own by blending approx 1½ cups dry red lentils into a flour)
- ½ tsp bicarb soda
- 1½ cups cooked sweet potato
- Preheat oven to 180C/350F.
- Mix the lentil flour and bicarb soda.
- Mash in the sweet potato and combine well.
- Line a baking tray with baking paper.
- Press the mixture onto the paper (it will be a bit wet and sticky) into the size of a pizza base.
- Bake for about 20-25 minutes.
- Top with your desired toppings!

I have never seen pizza crust made out of lentils, what an awesome idea! I also love that this has only 3 ingredients!!!!
Thanks so much Rachel! I hadn’t either until I had the crazy idea to try it out haha, I love using lentils for pizza now :D
Pizza crust dreams! Spot on my friend!
I’ve only used lentil flour (so far) in some veggie burgers!
Thank you Rebecca! Ooooh I’ll have to try lentil flour in veggie burgers, that would be amazing too!
OMG I LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!! Who would have thought to 1. make lentil flour (!!) and 2. make it into a pizza with sweet potato?!? This is awesome!
Awww thank you so much Megan! It’s kind of crazy hahaha but deliciously crazy :D
It was only last week I saw lentil flour in the supermarket and wondered what it was for as I have not really come across it before – this pizza base sounds lovely and I love your avocado rose – so pretty
Yes, seeing lentil flour at the supermarket has made me wonder what I could use it for too! Thank you Johanna :D
Oh yumm! That sweet potato pizza looks amazing! I love that you even made lentil flour in the blender. I haven’t worked with lentil flour at all. And that avocado rose on top is so pretty! That’s a real piece of art :)
Awww thank you Bianca! I’ve only started trying out new flours during this past year, I’ve had quite a few failures, but sometimes they turn out okay :D
I LOVE this idea. What a great spin on your previous lentil pizza base!
Thank you so much Kari! <3
Kyra, this looks so good–and healthy, too! Can’t wait to try it. Would be so good with smoked sun-dried tomatoes and basil!
Thank you Lee! Ohhh yes, sundried tomatoes and basil are amazing on pizza! <3
So excited to try this new pizza crust. Though I still need to try the basic lentil one too! Your pizzas are always delicious!
Awww thank you so much Mary! This pizza crust is closer to traditional pizzas, but the other lentil pizza crust is more thin and crispy…I love both of them :D I still need to get some psyllium husks so I can try your vegan mozzarella!
These look so yummy! I always get so many sweet potatoes at the end of my CSA season and I never know what to do with them. This is probably a good idea. Pinning this for when it is fall on the Northern Hemisphere!
Thank you Jennifer! I use sweet potatoes a lot, they are so versatile…pizza, chips, smoothies, curries :D
Gah! This is what happens when you get *super* behind on blogging. You miss super cool sounding pizza parties!
Darn. Ah well, I’ll just have to console myself by making this awesome sounding pizza crust ;)
I know what you mean, I’m so behind on blogging too! But luckily for you, the pizza party is still running until the 2nd week of June ;) I hope you’ll find the time to enter! <3
