I have been on a bit of a breakfast health-kick lately. Not that there was anything totally unhealthy about my breakfasts in the first place (fried mushrooms on toast, scrambled tofu…mmm…). But green smoothies, packed with leafy greens, fruit, plus superfoods = super healthy.
Plus now that I am no longer pregnant and not craving mushrooms every morning, the fried mushrooms suddenly don’t seem as appealing…
It could also be with the warmer weather; a nice cold smoothie on a hot morning seems more appetising than fried comfort foods.
Some mornings I will make a smoothie bowl; a delicious cold smoothie topped with more fresh fruit, granola, seeds or nuts. It’s like a bowl of cereal…but healthier.
Making smoothies is super easy too. I don’t usually follow recipes; I just throw whatever I have into the blender and cross my fingers! Haha. Actually I follow a bit of a system for smoothie perfection:
1 handful leafy greens + 2 fruits + about 1 cup liquid + optional superfood
= 1 awesome green smoothie
I’m a banana fiend and as you will see below, just about all my smoothies feature a banana; they give the smoothie a smooth texture and add sweetness. You can blend up whatever you like though. However if you do make a smoothie and it tastes awful, you can add another banana or other sweet fruit to help it taste better.
So here is a round up of some of my smoothie creations over the past few weeks. I hope this post inspires you to “get your smoothie on”! Note: I know not all of these smoothies are “green” but they are all packed with fruit and super healthy!
